Emergency Management Courses


This range of courses covers response and resilience in disaster management and pre-hospital care of emergency patients.

Course Summary:

This online Short Course provides guidelines for first responders when attending the woman in labour outside a clinical setting, to be equipped for management of childbirth. The course is designed to outline the appropriate management of the woman and her unborn child until qualified personnel are on the scene.

This course is an overview only and does not lead to any health or medical qualification in the management of the maternity patient.

Learning Outcomes:  

  1. Identify observations to be documented in the front line management of the woman in labour
  2. Recall appropriate communication techniques to adopt when talking with patients and significant other
  3. Identify equipment to prepare, if the birth is imminent
  4. Identify the appropriate interventions if spontaneous delivery occurs outside the clinical setting 
  5. Reflect on the legal considerations when responding to emergency childbirth as a non-qualified person.

This online Short Course outlines the management of the paediatric trauma patient, including assessment, resuscitation, and time-critical management guidelines in the pre-hospital environment.

  1. Describe the differences in paediatric and adult physiological parameters for assessment
  2. Outline the time-critical management guidelines when managing the paediatric trauma victim
  3. Outline key principles of resuscitation as they apply in paediatric emergencies.
